  • Nothing at all when the key is turned, with no click
  • Single click but the starter does not crank
  • Starting only intermittently, sometimes after a tap on the relay
  • Contacts inside found pitted, burnt or welded
  • Relay body or terminals hot after a long crank

  • Isolate the batteries before working on the starter circuit
  • Check the control feed and the earth at the relay before replacing it, and clean and retighten the heavy terminals - a loose main terminal is what burns the contacts
