Type D is the earlier aluminium Duoprop range for Aquamatic DPS and DPS-A sterndrives with straight propeller-shaft splines. Volvo Penta has replaced the Type D propeller sets with Type I sets, but the Type D front and rear propellers are still sold individually as spare parts. This is the D1 rear propeller; the matching front propeller is 3851421 - no complete set number is listed in this dimension. Every set of Duoprop propellers is designed, tested and manufactured together, so the front and rear propellers of a dimension belong to each other.

🔌 Function

Forms the aft half of a Duoprop counter-rotating pair, turning the opposite way to the front propeller and recovering its swirl as extra thrust.

• Vibration that builds with revs and eases when you throttle back
• Blade edges chipped, curled or bent after a strike
• Loss of top speed, or the engine over-revving against the same load
• Drive slipping under acceleration as the hub loses its grip
• Fishing line or weed wound tight behind the hub

• Do not mix Type D and Type I propellers - run the same type and the same size on the drive, and on both drives in a twin installation
• Volvo directs 6-cylinder diesel engines, engines over 240 hp and boats capable of more than 38 knots (45 mph) to the stainless steel Type F or FH propellers rather than an aluminium Duoprop
• To upgrade from Type D to Type I, consult a Volvo Penta dealer for advice on the right propeller size for the boat, drive and engine.
