• Oil drip or mist behind the pulley or flywheel end of the engine
• Oil thrown along the underside of the engine or onto a belt
• Seal lip hardened, split or turned back on removal
• A polished wear groove worn into the shaft where the seal runs

• Because the old number was a crankshaft seal, check the shaft for a wear groove; a new seal on a grooved shaft will leak again
