🔌 Function

Opens and closes the port in the cylinder head, sealing on its seat under combustion pressure and passing heat out through the seat and guide.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Compression low on one cylinder with a misfire
  • Hissing back through the induction or out of the exhaust
  • Valve face burnt, pitted or receded into the seat
  • Stem worn or bent, or the tip hammered and cupped
  • Ticking valve gear from clearance that keeps opening up

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Check the guide and seat before fitting a new valve - a new valve in a worn guide will burn again
  • Lap or recut the seat as specified, renew the stem seal, and reset clearances after fitting
