• Seal lip hardened, glazed or split
• Groove worn into the shaft or the wear sleeve where the lip runs
• Oil consumption climbing with no other leak found

• A seal that keeps failing usually means crankcase pressure or a worn bearing, so check the breather and the end float before fitting a third one
