🔌 Function

Closes the top of the cylinder head over the valve gear, keeping oil in and dirt out, and carrying the breather and filler fittings mounted on it.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

• Oil weeping down the side of the cylinder head
• Burning oil smell from oil dripping onto the exhaust
• Cover flange bent or distorted so it will not pull down flat
• Gasket found hardened, crushed or blown out
• Oil mist in the engine compartment from a blocked breather on the cover

• The port cover is 3854949 at 1.18 kg - the two are handed and are not interchangeable
• Renew the cover gasket and any grommets or seals in the cover when refitting, and tighten the fixings evenly to avoid distorting the flange
