3857173 Engine Control Module | Genuine Volvo Penta Part

🔧 Product Description

Genuine Volvo Penta engine control module from the Ignition and Control Systems group, weighing 1.125 kg, with two applications showing from service records rather than the main fitment lists. It supersedes 3856893, which was catalogued as a module and decal assembly, so the replacement covers what used to be supplied with its decal.

⚙️ Key Features

• 1.125 kg
• Supersedes 3856893, formerly a module and decal assembly
• Two applications from service records
• Ignition and Control Systems group

🔌 Function

Runs the engine's fuelling, ignition and protection strategy from the sensor inputs, and reports faults and readings to the instruments.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

• Engine will not start or dies with no fuel or spark fault found elsewhere
• Warning lamps or alarms with readings that make no sense
• Display or diagnostic tool loses communication with the engine
• Water tracks or green corrosion in the connector shell
• Running faults that follow vibration or a flexing harness

🛠️ Service Notes

• Control modules are normally matched and programmed to the engine, so confirm the software level and any dealer setup needed before ordering
• Check supply voltage, ground and connector pins first — a poor ground gives every symptom of a failed module
• Never unplug or plug it in with the ignition live, and disconnect the battery before working on it
