🔌 Function

Runs its lip on the rotating shaft to hold oil in and dirt out, keeping the seal as the shaft turns and the housing warms through.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

• Oil weeping or dripping at the rear of the engine
• Oil in the bellhousing, or oil on the coupling
• Seal lip hardened, glazed or split on removal
• Groove worn into the shaft where the lip has run
• Oil consumption rising with no smoke

🛠️ Service Notes

• Check the shaft for a wear groove before fitting - a grooved shaft will take out a new seal in short order
• Fit the seal square with housing 3858695 and lubricate the lip lightly on assembly
• Look at crankcase breathing as well - a pressurised crankcase pushes seals out
