Absorbs crankshaft torsional vibration through its bonded rubber element, keeping those oscillations away from the crankshaft, gears and driven accessories.

• Vibration or a harsh buzz through the engine that grows with speed
• Rubber element cracked, perished or visibly extruded
• Outer ring turned relative to the hub, throwing timing marks out
• Belt whip, belt wear or accessory bearing failures
• Wobble or run-out visible at the front pulley when running

• Check the outer ring has not slipped on the rubber - if the timing mark has moved, ignition timing set from it will be wrong
• Renew woodruff key 3859024 and check the crankshaft nose and keyway while the damper is off
• At 3.842 kg support the damper during removal and fitting rather than levering it off the nose
