🔧 Product Description
Genuine Volvo Penta thermostat housing from the Cooling System group, weighing 0.875 kg. Housing 3860514 is published at 0.866 kg — only 9 grams apart, with the same name and group — so the published figures do not separate the two and either must be ordered by part number, not by appearance or weight. The third housing in this range, 3860555, is the lighter one at 0.789 kg and covers 140 V-series applications.
⚙️ Key Features
- 0.875 kg
- Cooling System group
- Within 9 grams of housing 3860514 — order by part number
- 3860555 is the lighter 140-application V-series housing
🔌 Function
Houses the thermostat and forms the coolant outlet, directing flow to the bypass while the engine warms and opening it to the cooler once it is up to temperature.
⚠️ Common Signs of Failure
- Engine running hot, or slow to reach temperature
- Coolant weeping from the housing joint or the sensor boss
- Corrosion and scale built up around the thermostat seat
- Cracks or porosity showing once the housing is cleaned
- Temperature gauge swinging as the thermostat sticks in a corroded seat
🛠️ Service Notes
- Fit a new thermostat, seal and gasket with the housing rather than transferring the old ones
- Do not rely on weight or shape to choose between this and 3860514 — take the number from your engine's listing
