🔌 Function

Clamps the propeller onto the tapered or splined shaft and holds it against the thrust washer so drive is transmitted without the propeller working loose.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

• Propeller loose on the shaft or rattling at idle
• Nut backed off and the locking tab or split pin missing
• Thread galled, stretched or picked up on removal
• Corrosion welding the nut to the shaft so it will not release
• Flats rounded off by a badly fitting spanner

🛠️ Service Notes

• Fit with a new locking tab washer or split pin and never re-use a stretched nut
• Grease the shaft splines before assembly so the nut can be torqued without the propeller binding
• Check the thrust washer and any spacer for wear at the same time
