🔧 Product Description

Genuine Used Volvo Penta GM V8 Crankshaft Vibration Damper - Part Number: 3862261

A genuine pre-owned Volvo Penta crankshaft vibration damper, also known as a harmonic balancer, for selected GM-based marine petrol engines.

The damper mounts to the front of the crankshaft and combines a metal hub with an inertia ring and bonded elastomer. It absorbs torsional vibration generated each time the engine cylinders fire, reducing stress on the crankshaft, timing components and accessory drive.

Part number 3862261 is principally associated with selected Volvo Penta 5.0-litre, 5.7-litre and 6.2-litre V8 marine engines.

⚙️ Key Features

• Genuine Volvo Penta used vibration damper

• Correct OEM part number 3862261

• Crankshaft-mounted harmonic-balancer configuration

• Suitable for selected GM-based Volvo Penta V8 engines

• Approximately eight-inch marine balancer application

• Absorbs crankshaft torsional vibration

• Aftermarket marine replacements are available

🚤 Compatibility

Commonly used on:

• Volvo Penta GM-based V8 petrol engines

• Sterndrive propulsion packages

• Inboard petrol-engine installations

• Engines using a front crankshaft harmonic balancer

Typically suits selected:

• Volvo Penta 5.0-litre V8 engines

• Volvo Penta 5.7-litre V8 engines

• Volvo Penta 6.2-litre and 383-cubic-inch V8 applications

• GL, Gi, GXi and related engine families where 3862261 is specified

Important fitment note:

• Confirm the original Volvo Penta number, outside diameter, overall width and crankshaft-bore size.

• Pulley alignment and timing-mark location must match the original damper.

• Similar GM marine balancers may differ in balance specification, timing marks and accessory-pulley arrangement.

• Do not install a damper designed for a different internally or externally balanced engine.

• Crankshaft bolt, pulley and mounting hardware are included only when shown or described.

🔌 Function

The damper absorbs rapid twisting movement in the crankshaft caused by cylinder firing pulses.

Its bonded inertia ring oscillates against the crankshaft vibration and reduces damaging resonance before it reaches the crankshaft journals, timing chain and accessory drive.

Common signs of wear or failure:

• Rubber bond is cracked or displaced

• Outer ring has moved relative to the hub

• Timing mark no longer aligns correctly

• Visible wobble while the engine is running

• Crankshaft or accessory vibration

• Belt runs off-centre

• Knocking or rattling from the front of the engine

• Cracks around the hub or keyway

• Corrosion on the crankshaft bore

• Outer ring separates from the centre hub

Recommended checks before installation:

• Inspect the complete elastomer bond

• Confirm that the outer ring has not slipped

• Check the crankshaft bore and keyway

• Measure radial and lateral runout

• Compare the timing-mark position with the original

• Inspect the crankshaft nose and key

• Check pulley alignment

• Use the specified installation tool rather than hammering the damper onto the crankshaft

• Tighten the crankshaft bolt to the correct engine specification

📦 Condition

• Genuine Volvo Penta used part

• Pre-owned rotating engine component

• Paint loss, marks and surface corrosion may be present

• Elastomer condition and ring alignment must be checked before installation

• Included pulley and mounting hardware are limited to those shown or described

• Supplied in protective or equivalent packaging
