🔧 Product Description
Genuine Mercury Mariner Spark Advance Lever - Part Number: 42947 1
A genuine used Mercury Mariner spark-advance lever for selected three-cylinder two-stroke outboards.
The lever forms part of the combined throttle and ignition-timing linkage. It moves the trigger or timing mechanism in relation to throttle opening so ignition advance follows the engine's operating speed and load.
⚙️ Key Features
- Genuine Mercury Marine OEM spark-advance lever
- Correct Mercury reference 42947 1 / 429471
- Used across 65 Jet and 70HP to 90HP three-cylinder linkage assemblies
- Works with throttle cam 42948A7 and the associated return springs
- Maintains the designed relationship between throttle opening and ignition timing
🚤 Compatibility

🔌 Function
The lever transfers throttle-linkage movement to the ignition-timing mechanism. Correct lever geometry is required so the engine advances timing progressively rather than remaining retarded or advancing too quickly.
⚠️ Common Signs of Failure
- Lever pivot is worn or seized
- Lever is bent, cracked or heavily corroded
- Ignition timing does not advance smoothly with throttle movement
- Engine hesitates, lacks power or detonates because timing movement is incorrect
- Excess linkage play prevents accurate synchronisation
