🔌 Function

The impeller rotates inside the lower-unit or stern drive water pump housing to draw cooling water through the drive and circulate it through the engine cooling system. Correct impeller condition is critical for raw-water flow, temperature control and engine protection.

Common signs of failure:

• Weak or no tell-tale water stream

• Engine overheating alarm

• Reduced cooling-water pressure

• Overheating at idle, low speed or under load

• Cracked, hardened, curled or missing impeller vanes

• Rubber fragments found in the cooling system

• Pump housing damage from failed impeller operation
