🔌 Function

The flexible impeller rotates inside an offset pump cup, drawing water through the gearcase inlet and pressurising it into the engine cooling passages.

Common signs of failure:

• Weak or absent tell-tale stream

• Engine overheats soon after starting

• Cooling-water pressure falls at idle

• Impeller blades are cracked, permanently bent or missing

• Rubber fragments are found in the cooling passages

• Impeller hub spins independently of the rubber vanes
