🔧 Product Description
Genuine BRP Evinrude Johnson 60°C Water Thermostat - Part Number: 5033721
A genuine BRP cooling-system thermostat for selected Suzuki-built Johnson four-stroke outboards.
The thermostat begins regulating coolant flow at approximately 60°C or 140°F. It remains closed while the engine warms, then opens progressively to control water circulation through the cylinder block and cylinder head.
Maintaining the correct operating temperature supports stable fuel delivery, combustion efficiency, lubrication and corrosion control.

• Do not substitute the optional 71°C thermostat used in some Suzuki applications.
• Thermostat gasket, cover seal and fasteners are included only when specifically shown or stated.
🔌 Function
The thermostat restricts cooling-water flow during warm-up and opens as coolant temperature rises.
A thermostat stuck open can keep the engine too cold. A thermostat stuck closed can restrict circulation and cause overheating.
Common signs of thermostat failure:
• Engine overheats at idle or under load
• Engine takes too long to reach operating temperature
• Uneven cylinder-bank temperatures
• Warning horn or over-temperature fault
• Salt or mineral deposits around the thermostat
• Thermostat remains open when cold
• Thermostat does not open in heated water
• Corrosion damages the spring or frame
• Poor running caused by an engine remaining excessively cold
Installation considerations:
• Confirm the 60°C rating
• Inspect the thermostat cover and sealing groove
• Install a new gasket or sealing ring where required
• Remove salt and corrosion without damaging the housing
• Test the old thermostat in controlled heated water if diagnosis is uncertain
• Confirm that the replacement begins opening at the specified temperature
• Flush the cooling system if heavy mineral deposits are present
• Check tell-tale flow and operating temperature after installation
