🔧 Product Description

Genuine Used MerCruiser Bravo Three 2.20:1 Sterndrive - Part Number: 5441500TP

A genuine pre-owned Mercury MerCruiser Bravo Three sterndrive with a 2.20:1 overall gear ratio.

The Bravo Three drive uses two contra-rotating propeller shafts to provide strong acceleration, controlled planing, improved directional stability and precise handling in both forward and reverse.

This is the standard Bravo Three drive configuration associated with Mercury MerCruiser package number 5-5441500TP. It is not the heavier-duty Bravo Three X, XR or XZ version.

⚙️ Key Features

• Genuine Mercury MerCruiser used sterndrive

• Standard Bravo Three drive configuration

• 2.20:1 overall gear ratio

• Dual contra-rotating propeller-shaft design

• Suitable for serial-number-controlled petrol sterndrive applications

• Improved low-speed manoeuvrability and reverse control

• Complete upper and lower sterndrive assembly where supplied as pictured

🔄 Supersession & Cross Reference

OEM Supersession Chain:

• No verified superseding complete-drive number identified

• 5-5441500TP remains the recognised Mercury MerCruiser package reference for this standard Bravo Three 2.20-ratio drive

OEM / Related Numbers:

• 5441500TP

• 5-5441500TP

• Mercury MerCruiser Bravo Three

• Gear Ratio: 2.20:1

• Catalogue Serial Range: 0W250000 and later

• Related Bravo Three X 2.20 drive: 5-5447500TZ

• The Bravo Three X reference is a different heavy-duty drive and should not be treated as a direct supersession

Aftermarket / Verified Equivalents:

• SEI Marine SE128 complete 2.20-ratio replacement drive

• SE128 replacement reference for MerCruiser 5441500TP

• The SE128 standard replacement is not specified as a replacement for Bravo X, XR or XZ drives

🚤 Compatibility

Commonly used on:

• Mercury MerCruiser petrol sterndrive packages

• Single-engine and twin-engine installations

• Cruisers, sports cruisers, bowriders and heavier planing hulls

• Boats requiring strong acceleration and low-speed manoeuvrability

• Standard Bravo transom assemblies using the compatible Bravo Three drive

Direct catalogue application:

• Standard MerCruiser Bravo Three sterndrives

• 2.20:1 drive ratio

• Drive serial number 0W250000 and later

• Mercury MerCruiser complete drive reference 5-5441500TP

Selected engine families may include:

• MerCruiser 4.3L V6 packages originally specified with a Bravo Three 2.20 drive

• MerCruiser 5.0L V8 packages originally specified with a Bravo Three 2.20 drive

• MerCruiser 5.7L and 350 MAG packages originally specified with this ratio

• MerCruiser 6.2L and 377 MAG installations where the vessel was factory-matched to a standard 2.20-ratio Bravo Three

• Other petrol sterndrive packages whose original drive identification confirms 5441500TP

Important fitment note:

• The 2.20:1 ratio must match the vessel, engine output, propeller set and intended operating rpm.

• Do not replace a 1.81, 2.00 or 2.43-ratio drive without confirming the effect on engine rpm and propeller selection.

• Confirm the original drive model, serial number and gear ratio before ordering.

• Standard Bravo Three, Bravo Three X, Bravo Three XR and Bravo Three XZ drives are not automatically interchangeable.

• Input-shaft length, transom assembly, engine coupler and steering configuration must also be checked.

• Twin-engine installations may require matching drive ratios and compatible propeller sets on both sides.

• Propellers, gimbal housing, transom assembly, trim cylinders and installation hardware are included only when specifically shown or stated in the product listing.

🔌 Function

The sterndrive transfers engine power through the upper gear housing and lower gearcase to two coaxial propeller shafts.

The front and rear propellers rotate in opposite directions. This helps cancel propeller torque and improves tracking, acceleration, docking control and reverse handling.

The 2.20:1 reduction means the propeller shafts rotate more slowly than the engine input shaft, increasing the torque available at the propellers for compatible boat and engine combinations.

Common signs of sterndrive wear or failure:

• Gearcase oil appears milky or contains water

• Metal particles are present on the magnetic drain plug

• Grinding, rumbling or whining during operation

• Drive jumps out of forward or reverse gear

• Excessive play in the propeller shafts

• Propeller shafts are bent or have excessive runout

• Gear lubricant leaks around the propeller-shaft carrier

• Oil leaks beneath the water-pump or driveshaft area

• Excessive movement or noise from the universal joints

• Steering becomes stiff or inconsistent

• Corrosion is present around the bearing carrier or gear housing

• Damaged skeg, cavitation plate or propeller-shaft threads

• Engine cannot achieve the correct wide-open-throttle rpm

Recommended checks before installation:

• Confirm the drive identification and 2.20:1 ratio

• Drain and inspect the gear lubricant

• Inspect the magnetic drain plug for metal debris

• Pressure-test and vacuum-test the gearcase

• Inspect both propeller shafts for runout and spline damage

• Check bearing and gear backlash

• Inspect the input-shaft splines

• Inspect the universal joints and cross bearings

• Check the shift mechanism for full forward, neutral and reverse engagement

• Inspect the anodes and corrosion-protection surfaces

• Service the seawater pump as required

• Inspect the bellows, gimbal bearing, engine alignment and coupler before fitting the drive

• Fill with the specified Mercury or equivalent high-performance gear lubricant

• Select a matched Bravo Three propeller set that allows the engine to reach its specified operating range
