🔌 Function
The spring keeps the throttle and spark-advance components under controlled tension. It helps the linkage follow the cam accurately and return toward the idle or retarded position when throttle input is reduced.
⚠️ Common Signs of Failure
- Spring is stretched, broken or permanently distorted
- Linkage does not return smoothly to idle
- Throttle or spark-advance lever rattles or has excess free play
- Engine speed remains elevated after the control is reduced
- Corrosion weakens the spring or causes binding
