Genuine Yamaha 75HP-90HP Choke Solenoid Coil Assembly - Part Number: 688-86110-01-00

A genuine Yamaha magnetic choke solenoid for selected 75HP, 80HP, 85HP and 90HP carburetted two-stroke outboards.

When the ignition key or choke control is activated, the solenoid pulls the choke linkage and closes the carburettor choke plates. This enriches the fuel mixture to assist cold starting.

Current Yamaha part number 688-86110-01-00 supersedes earlier solenoid 688-86110-00-00.

🔌 Function

The choke solenoid converts an electrical signal from the helm control into mechanical movement of the carburettor choke linkage.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Engine is difficult to start when cold
  • Choke plates do not close when the key is pushed
  • Solenoid clicks but cannot pull the linkage
  • Solenoid coil becomes hot or emits a burnt smell
  • Internal plunger sticks because of rust or contamination
  • Damaged wiring causes intermittent choke operation
  • Engine floods because the linkage remains in the choke position
