🚤 Compatibility
Commonly used on:
• Yamaha outboard starting systems
Typically suits:
• Engine / Component models:
• F50 and F60 four-strokes, principally 2002-2006
• FT50 and FT60 high-thrust applications
• Selected 200HP, 225HP and 250HP V6 outboards using 61A/69L/69W starter references
• HP Range: 50HP - 250HP, part-number dependent
• Year Range: Principally 1990s through mid-2000s
• Component Identification: Because this starter appears on unrelated engine families, confirm the exact OEM number, 9-tooth pinion and mounting layout rather than relying on horsepower alone.
🔌 Function
The starter motor converts battery electrical energy into high-torque mechanical rotation to crank the engine. When the start circuit energises the solenoid, the pinion moves into the flywheel ring gear and the motor turns the crankshaft until combustion begins. The overrunning clutch then protects the starter as engine speed rises.
Common signs of failure / service requirement:
• No-crank condition even though the battery and start-control circuit test correctly
• Solenoid clicks but the starter motor does not rotate
• Starter turns slowly, draws excessive current or overheats the battery cables
• Pinion spins without engaging the flywheel ring gear
• Grinding, clashing or repeated pinion kick-out during cranking
• Intermittent cranking caused by worn brushes, solenoid contacts or heat soak
• Corrosion, water intrusion, burnt windings or excessive shaft/bearing play
📦 Condition
• New aftermarket replacement starter motor
• Brand new
• Supplied in original or equivalent packaging
