Genuine Mercury Upper Shift Shaft - Part Number: 71660

A genuine Mercury upper shift shaft used in the steering-handle and shift-control linkage of selected small two-stroke outboards.

The shaft transfers movement from the external shift lever to the lower shift linkage. It is no longer produced by Mercury and is most commonly documented on 4.5HP, 7.5HP and 9.8HP portable engines.

🔌 Function

The upper shift shaft rotates or moves when the operator selects forward, neutral or reverse. Its movement is transferred through the lower linkage to the gearcase shift rod.
