• Serial-number-controlled United States, Canadian, Australian and European models
Important fitment note:
• Confirm 7283A2 or 7283A3 on the original trigger.
• Similar small Mercury engines may use a different stator, trigger or breaker-point ignition system.
• Compare the linkage arm, wiring and mounting diameter.
🔌 Function
The trigger produces ignition-timing pulses and rotates to advance or retard spark timing as throttle position changes.
Common signs of failure:
• No spark on one or both cylinders
• Intermittent spark
• Difficult starting
• Misfire under acceleration
• Engine will not reach full timing advance
• Trigger wiring is cracked
• Plate binds under the flywheel
• Spark disappears when warm
Recommended checks before installation:
• Compare the trigger and linkage with the original
• Test resistance and peak output
• Inspect the stator, switchbox and coils
• Check the flywheel key and magnets
• Confirm free spark-advance movement
• Set ignition timing and throttle synchronisation
📦 Condition
• Genuine Mercury or Mariner used part
• Pre-owned electrical component
• Cosmetic marks, wire ageing and oxidation may be present
• Electrical testing before installation is strongly recommended
• Supplied in protective or equivalent packaging
