🔧 Product Description
Genuine Used Mercury Mariner Four-Cylinder Straight-Arm Trigger - Part Numbers: 76681A1 and 96452A4
A genuine pre-owned Mercury and Mariner four-cylinder trigger assembly used on selected 30 Jet and 40HP through 85HP two-stroke outboards.
Mercury 76681A1 supersedes to 96452A4 within the straight-linkage-arm trigger family. The assembly generates ignition-timing pulses and rotates mechanically as the throttle linkage advances the ignition timing.

Representative application period:
• Approximately 1976-1997, depending on horsepower and serial number
Important fitment note:
• This is the straight-arm trigger configuration.
• Engines requiring a hooked linkage arm use a different trigger family.
• Confirm the arm shape, wire colours and connector before ordering.
• Four-cylinder and three-cylinder Mercury triggers are not interchangeable.
🔌 Function
The trigger identifies crankshaft position and sends timed pulses to the switchbox.
Its movement under the flywheel changes ignition timing as the throttle linkage advances.
Common signs of failure:
• No spark on one or more cylinders
• Intermittent ignition
• Engine misfires under load
• Spark disappears when warm
• Engine will not reach maximum timing
• Trigger arm binds
• Wires crack near the rotating plate
• Peak trigger voltage is below specification
Recommended checks before installation:
• Confirm the straight-arm design
• Test each trigger circuit
• Inspect the switchbox and stator
• Check the flywheel key
• Confirm free trigger movement
• Route wires clear of the flywheel
• Set maximum timing after installation
📦 Condition
• Genuine Mercury or Mariner used part
• Pre-owned electrical component
• Wire and linkage wear may be present
• Electrical testing before installation is strongly recommended
• Supplied in protective or equivalent packaging
