Corrodes sacrificially in place of the drive's own metal, giving up material to the water so the castings and fasteners are protected.
⚠️ Common Signs of Failure
- Electrode wasted away to half its size or less
- Electrode still bright after a season, which means it is not electrically connected
- White or grey corrosion blooming on the drive castings
- Paint lifting and blistering around the drive
- Electrode loose on its studs or its seating face crusted up
🛠️ Service Notes
- Renew when about half the material has gone, and clean the mounting face back to bare metal, never paint an anode or its seat because it must make direct electrical contact
- Anode 832598 in this round is the transom shield anode for the 200 to 280 drives, so check which position you are replacing
