🔌 Function

Carries exhaust gas away from the manifold and turns it towards the exhaust outlet, usually mixing cooling water into the gas stream on the way.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

• Sooty or rusty staining at the elbow flanges
• Exhaust fumes or noise inside the engine compartment
• Water in a cylinder or a hard-starting engine after standing, from a corroded water passage
• Heavy internal scaling narrowing the gas path
• Flange face pitted or eaten away around the studs

🛠️ Service Notes

• Confirm the engine specification number before ordering - elbows in this family differ only by specification
• Renew the flange gaskets and check the studs, which usually corrode with the elbow
• Inspect the exhaust hose and its clamps at the same time, since a failed elbow lets water and gas into the compartment
