🔌 Function
The turbocharger uses exhaust pressure to compress incoming air, increasing cylinder air charge and allowing the engine to produce its rated torque and power.
Common signs of turbocharger failure:
• Reduced engine power
• Excessive black exhaust smoke
• Blue smoke and oil consumption
• Turbocharger whistle or grinding noise
• Oil visible in the intake piping
• Excessive shaft movement
• Turbine or compressor housing corrosion
• Engine will not reach normal loaded rpm
Installation considerations:
• Check the original turbocharger identification plate
• Replace engine oil and filter
• Inspect the turbo oil-feed and drain lines
• Clean the intake manifold and aftercooler where fitted
• Inspect the exhaust manifold and elbow
• Prime the turbo bearing housing before starting
• Replace the mounting and oil-pipe gaskets
• Check for saltwater or exhaust corrosion around the turbine housing
