Guards the rotating cooling fan so hands, clothing and loose items cannot reach the blades.

  • Guard loose, distorted or hanging off its fixings
  • Mesh or bars bent inward towards the blade path
  • Cracks at the mounting points
  • Corrosion scaling and flaking
  • Contact marks on the guard where the fan has touched it

  • Never run the engine with the fan guard removed or damaged, and isolate the starting circuit before working near the fan
  • If the guard shows contact marks, check the fan hub and mountings for play before refitting
  • Refit every fixing, as a partly secured guard can be drawn into the blades
