Bolts to the shaft and gives the coupling a machined face to run against, transmitting drive torque without letting the joint wander.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Vibration that builds with shaft speed
  • Bolt holes elongated or the flange face fretted and bright
  • Runout felt as a wobble when the shaft is turned by hand
  • Oil weeping past the seal that runs on the flange
  • Rust staining creeping out from between the mating faces

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Check the seal surface for a worn groove at the same time - a scored flange will chew through a new seal
  • Clean both mating faces properly and tighten the flange bolts evenly, working across the flange
