• Check the control cable and its adjustment first, and the cable end fittings for slop, before replacing the mechanism itself
• Intermediate lever 853225 and retainer 853361 sit in the same linkage and are worth renewing while the assembly is apart
• Re-set the cable adjustment and confirm full ahead and astern engagement before the boat leaves the berth
