🔌 Function

Passes oil through a matrix cooled by the surrounding water, taking heat out of the oil so its viscosity and film strength are maintained under load.

• Oil temperature running higher than normal, or oil pressure falling off when hot
• Oil in the cooling water, or water in the oil - either way, an internal leak in the cooler
• Milky or emulsified oil at the dipstick or drain
• External weeping at the cooler's connections or end caps
• Cooler found silted, scaled or blocked when opened up

🛠️ Service Notes

• Pressure-test the cooler rather than assuming it is sound - an internal leak is invisible from outside and puts water straight into the oil
• Renew the sealing rings and end-cap gaskets whenever the cooler is disturbed
• Find and fix the cause of any oil contamination before refilling, or the new oil is spoilt straight away
