Volvo Penta has replaced the Type A propeller sets with Type J sets, but the Type A front and rear propellers are still sold individually as spare parts. This is the A5 rear propeller; the matching front propeller is 854778 - no complete set number is listed in this dimension. Every set of Duoprop propellers is designed, tested and manufactured together, so the front and rear propellers of a dimension belong to each other.

🔌 Function

The trailing propeller of a counter-rotating Duoprop pair, turning the opposite way in the front propeller's wash and recovering the swirl left in it as extra thrust, which is what gives a Duoprop its grip and straight tracking.

• Order by the A5 code marked on the propeller rather than by weight: only 34 grams separate it from the A9 rear 854792
• Check the matching front 854778 for the same damage and keep both propellers at the same dimension
• Do not mix Type A, Type B and Type J propellers on a drive, and use propellers of the same type and size on the drive - or on both drives in a twin installation; Type J is the modern aluminium replacement covering both Type A and Type B sizes, but the sizes do not transfer directly - an A5 is not a J5 - so size an upgrade with your dealer, giving maximum boat speed and engine rpm
• Type J sizes are not equally transferred from Type A sizes - an A5 propeller does not correspond to a J5 propeller. Consult a Volvo Penta dealer for the right size, providing the maximum boat speed and engine rpm if possible.
• Do not mix Type A, B and J propellers. Always use propellers of the same type and size on the drive, or on both drives in twin installations.
• Installation hardware, types A, B, C and J: propeller cone kit M16 872614 or M20 872549, propeller nut 3851334, thrust rings 3858458 and 3858457. The spacer ring for the propeller cone, 853676, is only to be used with Type A propellers.
