Seals the joint between two inlet or exhaust faces, taking up their small irregularities so gas cannot escape past them.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Sooty black staining spreading from the joint
  • Ticking or hissing that follows engine speed
  • Gasket found blown through, hardened or crushed unevenly
  • Mating faces distorted or pulled hollow at the bolt holes

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Clean both faces back to bare metal and check them with a straight edge before fitting - a warped face is what kills the replacement
  • Renew the fixing nuts where they have corroded, and tighten evenly from the centre outwards
