858946 Brush Set | Genuine Volvo Penta Part

🔧 Product Description

Genuine Volvo Penta starter brush set weighing 0.145 kg and listed for 59 applications across MD, TMD, AD, AQAD, D and TD series engines. It consolidates three earlier numbers with different scopes - 834849 was a spring kit, 834854 a carbon brush set and 834853 a collector - so this single part now covers what used to be ordered as separate items.

🚤 Compatibility

• Engine Family: MD, TMD, AD, AQAD, D, TD, TAMD, MS, AQD

⚙️ Key Features

• Consolidates 834849, 834854 and 834853
• The numbers it replaces covered a spring kit, a carbon brush set and a collector
• 0.145 kg
• 59 applications across six engine series

🔌 Function

Carries current into the spinning armature through spring-loaded carbon brushes bearing on the commutator.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

• Starter turning slowly or refusing to turn when hot
• Clicking or a single thump with no rotation
• Brushes worn short, chipped or sticking in their boxes
• Springs weak, blued or broken
• Heavy carbon dust and arcing marks inside the end housing

🛠️ Service Notes

• Check the commutator for grooving and glazing - new brushes on a worn commutator will not last
• Prove the battery, cables and earth strap before stripping the starter
• This set now covers what three earlier numbers did, so check what is actually needed before also ordering springs separately
