⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

• Component able to be moved or rattled in its housing by hand
• Retainer found distorted, sprung open or cracked
• Corrosion wasting the retainer in a salt-water installation
• Rattle or tapping from the area that changes with engine speed
• Signs of fretting or bright wear where the part has been allowed to move

🛠️ Service Notes

• Fit a new retainer rather than re-tensioning a sprung one
• Check what the retainer holds for wear at the same time, since movement will have marked both
