⚙️ Key Features

  • Not used when an extra expansion tank is mounted
  • 0.102 kg
  • 105 applications across six engine series
  • Consolidates 350578 and 848716
  • Cooling System group

🔌 Function

Holds the cooling system at its designed pressure so the coolant can run above its atmospheric boiling point, and relieves that pressure through a spring-loaded valve before it can do damage.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Coolant pushed out into the overflow or lost after a hard run
  • Boiling or surging in the header tank at temperatures that should be safe
  • Top hose collapsing as the engine cools, showing the vacuum valve is stuck
  • Seal perished, swollen or missing from the underside of the cap
  • Corrosion or coolant crust on the sealing seat

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Never open a pressure cap on a hot engine - the coolant beneath it is above its atmospheric boiling point and will flash to steam
  • This cap is not used where an extra expansion tank is fitted - check the installation before ordering
  • Renew the cap with the thermostat and hoses at a coolant change rather than treating it as a permanent fitting
