🔌 Function

Locks the propeller shaft nut mechanically once it is tightened, with a tab bent up against a flat of the nut to stop it turning back.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

• Tab cracked or broken off where it was bent over
• Washer already flattened, showing the nut has been turning
• Corrosion or erosion around the bore
• Propeller nut found slack on inspection
• Vibration or a knock from the propeller under power

🛠️ Service Notes

• A tab washer is single use, so fit a new one every time the propeller nut is disturbed
• Check the shaft's manufacturing date as well as its diameter: shafts made before week 38 of 1993 take 828383, which covers both 25 mm and 30 mm
• Order by the nut thread too - M16 here, 873488 for M20 - and bend the tab hard against a nut flat, re-checking it after the first run
• V9338 means week 38 of 1993; the washer differs between shafts made before and after that date
