⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

• Water, damp or dried salt found inside a connector, junction box or housing behind the seal
• Green or white corrosion on the cable, terminals or pins where the cable passes through
• A seal found perished, split, hardened or pushed out of its hole, or missing altogether
• Intermittent instrument, alarm or sensor faults that come and go with rain, spray or washing down

🛠️ Service Notes

• Fit a new seal whenever the cable is disturbed; one that has been compressed and heat-cycled in place will not seal reliably a second time
• Check the seal is the right size for both the cable and the hole — a seal stretched over an oversized cable, or packed out with tape, does not keep water out
• Clean the hole and take off any burr or sharp edge before fitting, and seat the seal all the way round so it grips the cable and the panel together
• Where the run allows, leave a drip loop in the cable below the seal so water runs off instead of tracking down into the joint
• Support the cable clear of the seal so it cannot be tugged or repeatedly flexed at that point
