🔧 Product Description

Genuine Volvo Penta splined sleeve for 3858780 and 3858781, from the Marine Propulsion group, weighing 0.093 kg and listed for 192 applications across AQ, MD, TMD, AD, AQAD and D series engines. It consolidates two earlier numbers, 897584 and 897368, which were catalogued earlier as an upper gear. The 3858780 and 3858781 reference is the detail that decides the order, so check the assembly numbers before buying.

🚤 Compatibility

  • Engine Family: AQ, MD, TMD, AD, AQAD, D, BB, TAMD, MS, B, DP, SP, AQD, MB, KAD

Full model list at the end of this description.

⚙️ Key Features

  • For 3858780 and 3858781
  • 0.093 kg
  • Listed for 192 applications across AQ, MD, TMD, AD, AQAD and D series engines
  • Supersedes 897584 and 897368, catalogued earlier as an upper gear

🔌 Function

Couples two shafts through matching internal and external splines, transmitting drive without allowing relative rotation.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Clonk or backlash felt when drive is taken up or reversed
  • Splines visibly rounded, stepped or fretted when the sleeve is withdrawn
  • Rust-coloured fretting paste around the spline joint
  • Sleeve a loose fit on a shaft that is still within limits
  • Vibration that comes in with load rather than with engine speed

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Inspect the mating splines on both shafts before fitting — a new sleeve on worn splines will not last
  • Grease the splines on assembly with the lubricant specified for the drive, and check the sleeve is listed against 3858780 or 3858781
