🔧 Product Description
Genuine Volvo Penta anodes are made to sacrifice themselves in order to protect the drive and propeller from galvanic corrosion. Volvo Penta now recommends aluminium anodes in salt and brackish water instead of the zinc previously recommended for salt water, and is gradually phasing out and replacing most of its zinc anodes with aluminium ones. Aluminium anodes give 30% higher corrosion protection capacity, up to 20-40% longer life span in salt water compared with similarly sized zinc anodes, a lower environmental impact, and are the better choice for brackish water too. Magnesium is the material listed for fresh water. This is the cadmium-free zinc anode listed for lower gear, 100 drive, supplied for salt and brackish water. For some older drives Volvo Penta still provides cadmium-free zinc anodes, marked Zn, for salt and brackish water instead of aluminium anodes.
🚤 Compatibility
- Engine Family: MD, MB, AQ, BB, B, AQD

⚙️ Key Features
- Lower gear anode for the Aquamatic single prop 100 drive
- Cadmium-free zinc, for salt and brackish water on this older drive
- 0.227 kg
- No magnesium fresh water version is listed for this position
- Supersedes 804417, catalogued earlier as corrosion protection
- Cadmium-free zinc anode for Lower gear, 100 drive.
- Listed for salt and brackish water.
- Aluminium anodes give 30% higher corrosion protection capacity than a similarly sized zinc anode.
- Up to 20-40% longer life span in salt water than a similarly sized zinc anode.
- Lower environmental impact, and the better choice for brackish water as well as salt.
- Aluminium anodes can be used for all types of hull material.
- Volvo Penta anodes feature, where needed, an internal reinforcement made from an alloy that does not erode, which also ensures a reliable electrical connection between the anode and the drive.
- Material: cadmium-free zinc
- Fits: Lower gear, 100 drive
- Cadmium-free zinc sacrificial anode for the lower gear position
- Fits the Aquamatic single prop 100 Drive
- Position: lower gear
- Water type: Salt and brackish water
- Fits: the Aquamatic single prop 100 Drive
🔌 Function
Corrodes sacrificially at the lower gear of the drive, taking the galvanic attack that would otherwise fall on the drive's own metal.
⚠️ Common Signs of Failure
- Anode visibly wasted, deeply pitted or down to a thin remnant
- Anode gone completely, leaving only the fixing
- White or grey oxide crust over the face, insulating it from the water
- Paint or antifouling found on the anode or its seat, stopping it working
- Corrosion or pitting starting on the drive's own castings
🛠️ Service Notes
- Volvo Penta now recommends aluminium anodes in salt and brackish water and is phasing most zinc anodes out, but zinc is still what is listed for this older drive
- Check the drive and position: this is the single prop 100 drive lower gear anode, and 875812 is the 110S saildrive lower gear anode
- Fit to clean bare metal, never paint or antifoul the anode or its seat, and renew once roughly half has wasted
- Salt and brackish water: aluminium (or, on some older drives, cadmium-free zinc marked Zn). Fresh water: magnesium.
- When installing a new anode it is important to have good contact between the anode and the surface to which it is connected.
- If an anode has been exposed to air for a long time it can be covered by a passivating surface film that prevents it working properly; consider reactivating it with emery paper before launching. Do not use sandpaper, a wire brush or other steel tools when cleaning, as these may damage the galvanic protection.
- Water flow, salinity, temperature, pollution levels and stray current considerably affect anode life.
- Read the operator's manual for detailed information on maintaining and replacing anodes.
- Aluminium anodes are listed as giving 30% higher corrosion protection capacity and up to 20-40% longer life in salt water than similarly sized zinc anodes, with lower environmental impact, and as the better choice for brackish water too

- Volvo Penta anodes carry, where needed, an internal reinforcement in an alloy that does not erode, which also keeps a reliable electrical connection between the anode and the drive

- Refer to the Operator's Manual for maintenance and replacement detail for your own product
- No fresh water alternative is listed for this position - the fresh water column is blank
