🔌 Function
Takes up the expansion of the coolant as it heats and returns it to the circuit as the engine cools, keeping the system full and free of air.
⚠️ Common Signs of Failure
- Coolant level dropping with no visible leak elsewhere
- Staining or crusted coolant residue down the outside of the tank
- Tank body cracked, crazed or split at a moulded seam
- Cap seat damaged so the system will not hold pressure
- Coolant boiling or overflowing on shutdown
🛠️ Service Notes
- Renew the cap and the hose to the tank at the same time, as a tank that has been overflowing usually points at one of those rather than the tank
- Pressure-test the system after fitting before putting the boat back in service
