🔌 Function
The O-ring seals the bearing carrier against the lower-unit housing and prevents water or gear oil from passing around the carrier.
Common signs of failure:
• Gear oil leaks around the carrier perimeter
• Lower-unit oil becomes milky
• Corrosion develops in the carrier bore
• Gearcase will not hold pressure or vacuum
• O-ring is damaged during carrier removal
