🔌 Function

Passes through the drilling in a clevis pin or castellated nut and is spread open, locking the pin in place so it cannot work out.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Legs broken off or missing entirely
  • Pin sheared where it passes through the drilling
  • Corroded through to a stub
  • Clevis pin found migrating out of its joint
  • Slack appearing in a linkage that was previously tight

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Never refit a split pin that has already been opened and closed, as the legs fatigue and snap
  • Fit a new one whenever a clevis pin such as 964858, 964863, 964864, 964865, 964867 or 964907 is disturbed
  • Spread the legs fully and check the pin cannot rotate out of the joint
