šŸ”§ Product Description

Mackay Galvanised Spring Fish Plate for 40mm Axle – Part Number: A1682G

A galvanised axle fish plate used beneath the trailer spring to clamp a 40mm axle securely with the matching U-bolts. The formed plate spreads the U-bolt load across the spring pack and helps maintain the axle's location against the spring centre bolt.

āš™ļø Key Features

  • Designed for a 40mm axle
  • Galvanised steel construction
  • Matched U-bolt hole spacing
  • Spreads axle-clamping load across the spring
  • Replacement for bent, corroded or elongated fish plates
  • Use with the correctly sized Mackay U-bolt set

šŸ“ Specifications

  • Axle application: 40mm
  • U-bolt application: Match to the axle and spring assembly
  • Material: Formed galvanised steel
  • Spring width and hole spacing must match the installation

šŸ”„ Cross Reference & Related Parts

  • Mackay: A1682G
  • Dunbier: 2020
  • Designed for the corresponding 40mm axle and spring U-bolt spacing
  • Use with new rated U-bolts, washers and locking nuts
  • Other Mackay sizes: A1682G 40mm, A1684G 45mm, A1685G 50mm and A1686G 65mm

🚤 Trailer Compatibility & Application

  • Suitable for Mackay/Dunbier suspension using the specified 40mm axle
  • The plate must sit flat against the spring pack
  • Not interchangeable with plates for different axle sizes or U-bolt centres

šŸ”Œ Function

Forms the lower clamping plate in the axle-to-spring connection, allowing the U-bolts to secure the axle without concentrating load on a small spring area.

āš ļø Common Signs of Failure

  • Plate is bowed around the U-bolt holes
  • Holes are elongated
  • Galvanising is lost and corrosion is deep
  • Axle moves on the spring
  • U-bolt torque repeatedly falls
  • Spring centre bolt no longer locates correctly

šŸ› ļø Installation & Safety

  • Replace U-bolts whenever the fish plate is changed
  • Confirm the axle is centred over the spring centre bolt
  • Tighten U-bolts progressively and evenly
  • Do not use a plate with mismatched hole centres
  • Recheck torque after initial loaded use
  • Inspect axle alignment after installation
