AMSOIL HP Marine Synthetic 2-Stroke Injector Oil, 3.78 L jug. A full-synthetic, NMMA TC-W3 rated oil built for direct-injection two-stroke outboards that run lean: Evinrude E-TEC, Mercury Optimax and EFI, Tohatsu TLDI. Use it as injector oil, or as a 50:1 premix in any older outboard that specifies TC-W3.

The XD100 question

Evinrude E-TEC engines on the lean-mix setting were sold with the condition that only Evinrude XD100 be used, and BRP never published a specification against which another oil could be qualified. AMSOIL answered that the only way it could be answered: two E-TEC 250s on a Sea Tow work boat ran 534 hours side by side, one on HP Marine and one on XD100, and were then stripped and rated by a calibrated ASTM rater. Zero bore scuffing, zero ring sticking and near-perfect bearing ratings on both. What it does

• Wear protection for the higher heat and friction of lean-running DFI engines, in normal and lean-mix operation.
• Deposit control from the MAXDOSE additive package: resists ring sticking and ring jacking, and keeps exhaust ports clear.
• Low smoke (JASO M342 FD smoke test, pass) and low aquatic toxicity (OECD 203 fish and OECD 202 daphnia tests, 100% survival).
• Compatible with mineral and synthetic TC-W3 oils; change over by running the reservoir down and refilling, rather than mixing bottle by bottle.
